Summer travel is heating up just in time for 4th of July. Many of our communities across Kansas I-70 are planning celebrations and welcome you to attend. So hit the road to celebrate freedom this 4th of July.

Kansas City

Enjoy fireworks in the park on July 3, 2021.  This family-friendly event is located inside Pierson Park and is free and open to the public.  Fireworks show will start approximately at 9:45pm.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the show! Bonner Springs

Bonner Springs is proud to bring back Bonner Blast! Join us on Thursday, July 1, in historic downtown Bonner Springs for the return of Bonner Blast featuring a city band concert, ice cream social, and fireworks display! Visit Historic Downtown for shopping and dinner, then head over to Kelly Murphy Park, 129 Elm, where you’ll enjoy an evening of patriotic music followed by an old fashioned ice cream social and the Bonner Blast Fireworks Display. The City Band concert will begin at 8:30 p.m. followed by the ice cream social. Fireworks will begin around 9:45 p.m. after the City Band concert.

Shawnee

Picnic in the Park, CANCELED due to weather. We will update with a new date and time soon. Stump Park, 6 – 9:30pm- Bring your lawn games and pack a picnic for Shawnee’s Picnic in the Park hosted at Stump Park with lots of open space, fireworks, sprinkler runs and wonderful sweet food trucks!

Manhattan

Spend the weekend of 4th of July out on Tuttle Creek Lake, enjoy lake day activities like boating, fishing, paddling and more. On 4th of July head to Manhattan’s next-door neighbor, Wamego, they bring out all the sparklers.

Wamego’s all-day celebration includes a tractor and car show, a backstage bar at the Columbian Theatre, watermelon feed, concerts, carnival and, of course, a fireworks show to end the night. Wamego’s free fireworks show is ranked #1 in Kansas! Head there for a day of fun celebrating Independence Day.

Junction City

The 49th Annual Sundown Salute is coming to Junction City! July 3rd come out and check out all the great things that are planned. Visit the Sundown Salute Facebook page, for information on signing up for the 45th Annual Freedom Run, entering a float in the Sundown Salute Parade, and entering a vehicle in the 15th Annual Car, Truck and Bike Show.

Abilene

Celebrate Independence Day with an Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration in Abilene, Kansas. Named one of Smithsonian Magazine’s “Top 20 Best Small Towns to Visit”, Abilene’s Fourth of July Celebration will not disappoint. Visit Eisenhower Park in Abilene for a family-friendly Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration complete with 5k Rock Run, baby beauty contest, Pedal Power Tractor Pull, Sand Volleyball tournament, frog and turtle races, Abilene Municipal Pool free swim, Abilene Municipal Band performance, and, of course, fireworks!

Hays

The Wild West Festival is a four-day event held in Hays, Kansas each year that is centered around the 4th of July holiday. Founded in 1995, The Wild West Festival has become one of the region’s most exciting summer music festivals. One low ticket price provides access to three nights of concerts and food vendors, with past performances including national recording artists such as Toby Keith, Billy Currington, The Grass Roots, Maddie and Tae, Chris Janson, and Thomas Rhett. A patriotic Main Street parade, carnival, 5K race, and free fireworks extravaganza make Hays the perfect destination for your Independence Day celebration. This year’s performers include Logan Mize, Shenandoah, Blackhawk, and Firehouse. Tickets are available at www.wildwestfestival.com.

WaKeeney

At Cedar Bluff State Park we love our veterans and pets! We are a perfect place for them all due to our firework free zone. We celebrate our freedom with a Pet and UTV parade and prizes for the “most patriotic” campsite. Details will be updated in this event page as we plan it. Make sure to mark your calendar!

Goodland

Goodland’s 4th of July Freedom Festival is an event for the whole family to enjoy. Join us on the Sherman County Fairgrounds for Great Food, Carnival Rides, Live Entertainment, Fireworks, and much more. Watch the best fireworks show from Denver to Hays presented by local talent Joe Diaz.
